This months Jeffco FCA COACH OF THE MONTH is Vernon Whittington, aka Coach V, head basketball coach and assistant football coach at Arvada High School. Vernon has been volunteering with FCA for the past several years and truly sees his platform as a coach to make an impact on the next generation for Christ. He seeks to be a prayer warrior for all of his players to show them what his faith means to him and how he finds significance and value from Jesus, not what he does on the court or field. FCA Jeffco loves Coach V and how he coaches like Christ each and every season.

In this time of societal chaos, we hope that you are reminded that we have a MGHTY and POWERFUL God who can handle our concerns and our doubts! It is not a bad thing to wrestle With God - The Psalms are filled with those who cry out to God in desperation, frustration, doubt and anger (Psalm 13:1-6, Psalm 35:17-18, Psalm 42:9-11). Our God is big enough to take it. He can handle it. So talk to Him. Then notice in each of these passages that the writer concludes by praising God. As we reflect on who God is, all that He has done for us up to this season, our talents and skills, His never-ending grace and love…may we find comfort in this heavenly perspective.

Student-Athlete of the Month! Danny Wisor is a Senior at Green Mountain and plays football and baseball for the Rams. He started coming to FCA last year and has really grown in his faith over the past year and a half. We are really proud of the man that Danny is becoming! He has been showing up to huddles every week and has taken leadership in inviting younger classmates. We are very excited to watch Danny grow in his faith and love with Jesus as he heads off the college next year.

We had a blast at Faith night on Monday! So many awesome students were there, from so many different schools, coaches from all over, and our speakers preached the house down! Keep your eye out for the next one! We love nights like these!

Coach of the Month! Our Jeffco coach of the month this month is Ashleigh Ackerman. She is the assistant woman’s basketball coach for Colorado School of Mines. Ashleigh lives out the definition of the 3D Coach. She cares about her players on and off the court taking great initiative to pour into them. Motivated by her own relationship with the Lord, she has a burden to share Jesus with those on her team and other coaches around her. I see her inviting coaches to Bible studies, finding creative ways to share truth, and an overall boldness. Oh and her team is playing really well right now. Congrats coach, we as Jeffco FCA truly appreciate what you’re doing to further the gospel!

Everyone, meet Taylor Flanagan! She is the South West Jefferson County Area Representative. She played basketball at Colorado Christian University for four years on a full ride scholarship. Taylor is extremely passionate about the ability to be a Christian AND playing sports at a high level because for so many years, she didn't know they could both be pursued. Taylor’s passionate love for Jesus stemmed from the game of basketball which later led her to FCA! Taylor is an introvert that loves peaceful mornings all the dark chocolate and too much coffee.

Everyone, meet Joel Haywood! He Jeffco’s Campus Representative at Colorado School of Mines. After playing 4 years of basketball at Concordia University, he moved back to Denver to start his career in business and coaching. During that time, God chipped away pieces of Joel's heart and placed a call into ministry on his life, which led him to accept his position with FCA in the Fall of 2018. He loves using the talents and abilities God has given him to impact the Kingdom by engaging and discipling college coaches and athletes. His knees (and jumpshot) aren't what they once were, so Joel has traded in his hoop shoes for bare feet and now spends most of his free time playing beach volleyball in Wash Park. Or eating Chipotle. Or both.

Everyone meet Dustin Wanner! Dustin is the Area Representative for Central Jefferson Country. He got married to his beautiful wife Katie, moved to Denver from Indiana, and was hired all in the eventful summer of 2018. He was a 3-sport athlete (football, basketball, baseball) in high school, eventually deciding to play football in college at Taylor University in Indiana. FCA has had a huge impact on Dustin before he was even born. His grandfather's life was changed as he accepted Christ at an FCA event in North Carolina. Dustin loves playing pickup basketball, obsessively watching the Indiana Hoosiers, and spending time with family and friends. Dustin fully believes that coaches and athletes have the biggest impact in schools and wants to help disciple and lead as many people as possible into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ and His Church. He loves developing relationships with coaches, athletes, and partners throughout the Lakewood area and is excited to see where God leads his ministry in the future!

Everyone... meet Libby Noeth! Libby is the Collegiate Director at Colorado School of Mines. She played softball at Wheaton College and immediately transitioned into coaching high school softball and full time youth ministry. From an early age it was apparent to her that sports, coaches, and teammates can have a big impact on a person's faith, which drew her into FCA. You can see her light up as she talks about how Mines students are growing into world changing, missionary-engineers! When she isn't on the Mines campus you can find her coaching CrossFit or exploring the Colorado mountains with her husband, Tyson. Libby was coaching a CrossFit class when she first met Tyson, confirming that coaches can make a great impact on an athlete's life!
